This month, my selection centres around a product range. You might have an idea or even guessed it, but...

This month's winner is

Stove Bright High Temp Paint.

Stove Bright® High-Temperature paint is the ultimate solution for enhancing the appearance and durability of your heating appliances. The fast-drying, high-quality aerosol paint is specifically designed for use on wood stoves, boilers, furnaces, ovens, engines, and cast iron chimeneas. It is available in a wide range of vibrant colours to suit any décor whether you're looking to give your old stove a fresh, new look or protect a new one from the rigours of regular use.

You guys have gone mad for this stuff over the last couple of months! From Blacks to Almonds to Reds and Blues you’ve bought it all.

I do however get a lot of questions about the Paints however, so before we jump into this month's review - I want to leave some FAQs that I get asked about the paint itself regularly.

Q. Do I need to remove any rust before applying the paint?
A: Yes, for best results you should remove all rust before repainting. Any contaminant on the surface can create a lack of adhesion when your stove reaches high temperatures. Wire brush or sand the rust off. In extreme cases, it may be necessary to sandblast. See the User Guide for more information on surface preparation before painting.

Q: What primer do I use before I paint my stove?
A: Stove Bright® high-temperature paint is self-priming for use in normal indoor conditions. Only in very unusual circumstances (such as extremely high humidity or outdoor use) will a high-heat primer be needed. The following question refers to when the high-heat primer is needed.
NOTE: Regular metal primers are not designed to meet high-heat demands and will flake and peel off above 90°C (approx), giving off noxious fumes.

Q: Is smoke and odour normal during the curing process?
A: During the curing process the chemical nature of the paint changes. The heat of the stove during curing will cause chemicals to burn off, sometimes resulting in visible smoke and annoying odour. This two-stage curing process requires an initial medium-sized burn (about 230°C) for about 60 minutes to begin heat-curing the silicone resin. As the paint heats, it will temporarily soften. Gradually, at the hottest spots, the paint will again appear dry. Immediately commence a hotter burn of about (315°C) for another 45 minutes to complete the silicone cure. You will know when this occurs because the process creates some smoke and odour! After the "burn-off" is complete, there will be no more smoke or odour. Although the smoke/odour is not toxic, it is annoying. It displaces oxygen and may cause physical distress for some individuals and animals. Until this 2nd stage is finished, the curing process will be incomplete and there may be a smoky annoyance later. Please see our User Guide for detailed procedures.

Q: Can I paint my glossy kitchen stove?
A: No. Because Stove Bright® High-Temperature Paint is specifically designed to maintain its colour at high temperatures, one might think that it is the perfect solution for painting a range or stove. There are two reasons that our paint is not suitable:
It is a flat paint. The glossy finish of porcelain cannot be duplicated in a paint that is subject to high heat.
Stove Bright® paint is not FDA-approved for incidental food contact. Alternatives to painting the range top or stove include services that refurbish porcelain or powder coating. These tend to be expensive options for re-coating a range or stovetop.

Q: Why are high-temp Almond and Sand more difficult to work with than darker colours?
A: Almond and Sand are light, flat colours which have more pigment than darker colours because they are frequently applied over black. It is important to achieve a uniform mix of components with these two colours because of the higher levels of pigmentation. If they are not thoroughly mixed by vigorous shaking for at least two minutes (a mechanical paint shaker is the best), they are likely to fail when subjected to high temperatures. They also require more particular attention in application than the darker colours. For a more thorough explanation, please see the Application Techniques section of our User Guide.

The How to Guide.  will give you step-by-step instructions on everything from preparation of the surface, application and lighting a fire.

There are also a number of videos available on the website which can be watched, anytime as many times as you want.

Head over to the Stove Bright website here. Or if you want to go directly to either of the above-mentioned sections I’ll link them below:

Stove Bright How to Guide.

This will give you all of the information you need to give your stove a freshen up before the winter arrives.

Hear from our customer Andrew who recently contacted us about Stove Bright Paint and his experience in using it;

“My stoves had a bit of a beating over the last few years and this year looked like it needed a makeover and some TLC. I contacted The Fireside Shop because I had no clue where to start. Robbie was great,  he sent me a colour chart so I could match up a colour that I really liked and wanted to paint my stove in.

I ordered 5 can’s directly from The Fireside Shop, which was more than enough and I’ve got 2 cans left over now to do any touch-up work later down the line. Once I’d received the paint though, this is where I began to struggle. Now I’m not afraid to carry out solo DIY projects and this was another one of those occasions, but again I contacted Robbie, and he pointed me in the direction of the Stove Bright Website. If I’d just done it how I thought it should be done I would have wasted all the paint and still require more now. But by reading through the FAQs, the How to Guide.  and watching the Videos  I was ready and raring to go.

Following the How to Guide religiously, I’ve now managed to change a battered old stove which was starting to rust, back into a stove that looks brand new and gives my kitchen a centrepiece in which the room is centred around.

Finally, I’d just like to say thanks to Robbie and everyone else at The Fireside Shop. They really do have a wealth of knowledge that is so helpful especially when it comes to things like this. Would highly recommend! “

There you go, like I say every month don’t just take my word for it.

That’s it for this month.

We’ll be back again next month with more news updates and closer than ever to the new season.

Until then,

Remember;

To Keep Those Fires Burning.
