Sale of Coal & Unseasoned Wood Restricted
The sale of coal and wet wood has now been restricted within England. You can still use your stove or open fire however you should no longer burn traditional house hold coal or unseasoned (wet) wood. The restrictions on the sale of wet wood and coal are intended to encourage cleaner alternatives such as seasoned wood, fire logs and manufactured solid fuels.
As reported by the BBC the data from the government shows only 8% of households in England use Stoves or Open Fires however, domestic wood burning was responsible for 38% of pollution particles under 2.5 microns in sizes. Three times more than road traffic.
These particles have been identified by the World Health Organisation (WHO) as the most serious air pollutant for human health.
At the moment the restrictions just apply to England but similar proposals are being considered in Scotland and Wales.
While these new restrictions will have a welcomed effect on air quality and the environment. The people most affected by the restrictions are likely to be rural users where solid fuel still provides a important heat source within properties. We recommend contacting your coal merchant or supplier to decide which of the available alternatives will be best for you.
We will continued to supply our quality ranch of coal bunkers which can be used for storing alternative fuels and can be shipped anywhere in the UK.
