Fireplace Maintenance 

The fireplace is a main focal point so it is therefore important to take care of it and to keep it looking its best. Since a solid fuel fire involves some inherently ‘dirty’ objects and substances keeping the fireplace looking its best is an ongoing task. Making sure the metal work is polished and clean can also add to the tidy appearance of the fireplace. Cleaning and or polishing the accessories, sweeping up around the log basket can make an immediate difference.

There are many products available to add a bit of extra cleaning power and shine to the fireplace and hearth area. For example stove and grate polish, and grate paint can help the grate to look as shiny and clean as possible. These products are also generally resistant to heat (to a given temperature) and corrosion which means that all your cleaning efforts won’t be totally destroyed the next time you use the fire. Slate Oil can help any slate tile area e.g. around the hearth, to look its best. Fireplace cleaner can remove stains, soot and marks from pretty much any surface in the fireplace area, and if you have a marble fire surround you could choose to use marble polish. You can also prevent any scratches on your hearth by using felt pads on the bottom of e.g. Fire guards and fenders.

If you have e.g. a marble fireplace surround, you can protect and clean it with some high quality Italian Marble polish. If for example you have brick and stone areas around your fireplace, you will need a robust and reliable product to remove any marks and stains. You could try a specialised product such as brick and stone cleaner. Replacement wood burner seals are easily fitted with the help of special fireside adhesive.
