Fire Kits & Fire Baskets
To burn an open solid fuel fire you will either need to have a kit or a fire Basket .
A fire kit consists of a fire grate , ash pan and a fire front or fire fret. in one box a Fire Kit will have everything you need to do the job, a grate, ash pan and fret. they fit into a traditional Tapered fire chamber . In post war homes , pre cast fire chambers Fire Kits are sized to the British standard classification, based on the imperial width of the fire opening at the front, in 2” increments typically from 14” to 18”. Whilst the phisycal dimension of the kit may be less than the “classification” the fire kits can easily be matched to the appropriate fire opening be it a 16”, 18” .
A Fire basket which is a self contained free standing rectangular basket in which the fuel will burn within an inglenook fire chanber.
You can buy fire baskets and kits for modern themes, in contemporary homes, or traditional themes for victorian fires.
